Birth Boot Camp is a complete program designed to arm couples with the education to make informed decisions about pregnancy and birth. It includes accurate information from knowledgeable birth professionals. It is thorough, up-to-date and entertaining!

Class 1

Defining the Mission: Why Natural Childbirth Mission

We set the tone for class by talking about the history of childbirth in America and the state of the current maternity care system. You’ll learn why natural birth is important and usually the safest method of delivery.  Take part in an in-depth discussion on how drugs and common policies interfere with the natural process. You will walk away from the first class armed with tools to manage labor naturally.

Class 2

P.T. & Chow: Physical Training and Nutrition for Your Birth

I used to believe that what we eat did not really matter. I share my own story about how real food changed my family for the better and offer encouragement to use pregnancy as a time to make positive changes in your own eating habits. We will discuss good nutrition to help you stay low-risk and how to nourish your body and your baby well. We will discuss the wealth of knowledge in your book about how to properly tone the muscles you’ll need to birth your baby.  Finally, part of your Physical Training is the preparation of the mind, body, and spirit through relaxation practice in each class. Partners will learn helpful hints about the process of practicing relaxation at home.

Class 3

Part 1- Setting Up Camp: Deciding Where to Birth Setting Up Camp

What should a couple look for when choosing a birth place? The right answer can be different for every couple.  Whether you are planning to birth at home, at a birth center or at a hospital, this class will empower you to know what questions to ask your care provider to confirm you are on the same page for your birth goals. I hope this class give you great confidence in your choices!

Part 2- Chain of Command: Who is in Charge of Your Birth? Chain of Command

With so much birth lingo, it’s easy to get confused! Learn the difference between a doula and different types of midwives, the benefits of chiropractic care and how to decide who to invite to your birth. Every person present can impact the process of labor, so this class will give you the tools to choose your birth team wisely.

Class 4

Countdown to D-Day: Final Preparations Before Giving Birth D-Day

The last few weeks of pregnancy can be overwhelming – physically and emotionally. Know and understand various testing and procedures often done in the final weeks of pregnancy. We will discuss thoroughly expectations for going past your due date and options for encouraging labor or patiently waiting for labor to begin. Understanding your options, you will be able to face the last few weeks of pregnancy with confidence and excitement.

Class 5

Deployment: Baby on the Move Deployment

Knowing what to expect takes the fear out of labor – for moms and their partners! Learn about the different phases of labor and what you can likely expect to physically take place.

Class 6

Supporting Arms: Mom’s Most Important Ally Supporting Arms

Dad is mom’s most important ally. By Week 6, Birth Boot Camp has given you both a good foundation. You have been working together week by week. In Supporting Arms, Dad will learn very practical ways to help Mom during labor. This is his most important class! Moms will also learn some very effective techniques in coping with the challenges of labor. Anyone who is part of your birth team is encouraged to sit in on this class, as well.

Class 7

Cadence: The Sights and Sounds of Natural Childbirth Cadence

The moment you’ve been waiting for – the birth of your baby! We will discuss ways to help the pushing phase of labor go as smoothly as possible. Water birth and optimal positioning for mom and baby will be covered. Replace fear with joy and anticipation of meeting your baby for the very first time.

Class 8

The Fog of War: Keeping a Clear Head in Labor Fog of War

The Fog of War is about all the things you can do to avoid a cesarean section and when they are actually necessary. You will also be prepared for unexpected circumstances that may come up during labor or birth. This class is one of the main reasons I started teaching Birth Boot Camp. Many courses do not cover “what ifs” but we will make sure you have a plan for deviations from your birth plan so that you can still feel informed, respected and involved in your birth.

Class 9

Part 1- The Plan of Action: Establishing Your Priorities and Making a Plan Plan of Action

Now that you are armed with knowledge and information, you are ready to create your unique birth plan. We will discuss specific details to put on your birth plan and possible topics to discuss with your care provider at this point. No matter where you are birthing, deciding what you want, knowing your options, and learning to communicate with your partner and your birth team is paramount.

Part 2- Mission Accomplished! The Immediate Postpartum Period Mission Accomplished

You are making choices for your baby from his or her first breath. Learn about placenta delivery, cord clamping, skin to skin contact, initiating breastfeeding, and common procedures. The first moments after birth are so precious!

Class 10

Life with a New Recruit

The first few days and weeks are beautiful and challenging. In this class we talk about expectations and techniques that will enhance bonding and make the transition to parenthood easier and more enjoyable. We will discuss breastfeeding, safe sleeping arrangements, how to soothe your baby, baby wearing and cloth diapering. We’ll end the class with encouragement to take your recovery seriously and will talk about how partners can support each other.
